Deftones is an American alternative metal band formed in 1988 in Sacramento, California. The founding members include vocalist Chino Moreno, guitarist Stephen Carpenter, drummer Abe Cunningham, and late bassist Chi Cheng (later replaced by Sergio Vega).

Known for blending heavy riffs with atmospheric and emotional soundscapes, Deftones rose to prominence with their 2000 album White Pony, which included the hit “Change (In the House of Flies).” Their music defies genre boundaries, integrating elements of metal, dream pop, and post-hardcore.

The band is praised for constantly evolving their sound, while maintaining emotional depth and musical intensity. Deftones has built a loyal global fanbase and is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and enduring bands in modern rock and metal.
